You can treat NovelPlayer as a local novel reader first. The core reading features are free, and you do not need to configure a local voice model.

NovelPlayer's AI capabilities do not replace the reader; they are an enhancement layer built on top of it:

• Even with no AI dependency enabled, you should be able to read local novels normally
• Once CosyVoice is enabled, reading can be upgraded into an audiobook experience

Step 1: Import a Local Novel

To import a local EPUB, open the overflow menu at the top right of the library screen and select Import EPUB.

It is recommended to follow this order:

1. Open the library screen.
2. Open the overflow menu at the top right.
3. Tap Import EPUB.
4. Choose your local EPUB file and wait for the import to finish.
5. Return to the library and confirm the novel appears in the list.

At this stage, third-party plugins, Google Backup, and other extensions are not involved — we focus on the most basic local reading experience.

Step 2: Start Reading

Once the import is done, you can open the novel directly in the library and start reading chapter by chapter.

Here is the recommended way:

1. Tap the novel you just imported in the library.
2. Open the chapter list from the novel details screen.
3. Select a chapter to enter the reader.
4. First, confirm that the typography, page turning, and scrolling reading feel right for you.

If you only want to verify that "you can read properly", reaching this step is already enough.

Step 3: Keep Reading

After you have completed the import and the first read, using it afterwards becomes simpler:

• Continue opening imported novels from the library
• Jump straight back to where you last read
• Adjust fonts, voice, and reading style to suit your habits
